BEFORECARE
Discontinue hair removal methods, other than shaving.
Grow the hair out 3-5 days before treatment, long enough to easily grab with tweezers (not too long, especially for surgery prep work).
Hydrate! Drink 72 oz of water daily; especially the 3 days prior to treatment (not just the day-of). Consistent hydration helps electrolysis and supports the healing response after treatment.
Avoid caffeine a few hours before treatment (it is dehydrating and increases sensitivity).
Limit sun exposure 48 hours before (and after) treatment.
AFTERCARE
Let the skin breathe; No makeup or fragranced lotions for 24 hours.
Do not touch the area (avoid introducing bacteria).
Avoid heat and sweating (such as saunas and excessive sun exposure).
Clean daily with a gentle soap and water.
Minor swelling / redness is typical and usually dissipates within a few hours, apply ice if needed.
DURING THE COURSE OF TREATMENT
Avoid hair removal methods that pulls the hair out by the roots (tweezing, waxing, sugaring, threading, etc), or electrolysis will not be effective.
Use sunscreen regularly (SPF 30).
Do not use Retinoids (e.g. Retin-A) or HHAs (Hyaluronic Acid) within 7 days (before or after) of electrolysis.
We do not endorse any specific products, however sensitive clients have reported the following to be helpful.
BEFORE TREATMENT
An anti inflammatory (e.g. ibuprofen).
A topical desensitizing cream (e.g. Numb Skin 5% lidocaine cream) applied 45 minutes before treatment
For those prone to ingrown hairs, a gentle exfoliant 24-48 hours before treatment (e.g. Good Molecules Pineapple Exfoliating Powder).
AFTER TREATMENT
A zinc based topical cream (e.g. Neosporin or Bacitracin cream, not ointment), accelerating healing and reducing redness.
